Aloha Y’all! From the South shore of Tybee Island, GA

Aloha. Welcome to Hot Sushi’s Happy Surf Camp.

The camp’s mission is to live the Aloha spirit while helping future generations stay healthy and happy through the joy of surfing. Each day, Aloha is practiced in simple, meaningful ways through respect, humility, gratitude, and kindness toward others.

At Hot Sushi’s Happy Surf Camp, riding waves is only one part of connecting with nature and the community. There is a deep care for both. In Hawaiʻi, the word ʻāina means the land and is often understood as our Mother Earth. By living with aloha ʻāina, the camp shares the importance of honoring and protecting the natural world, so people and nature can grow together in balance and harmony.

Camp Hours & Location

Daily from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, activities take place on the beach between 18th Street and 19th Street, near the south jetties and rock piles.

What To Bring

Please come prepared for a typical day at the beach.

• Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated, along with sunscreen, beach towels, and any snacks you may prefer.
• Food and drinks are not provided.
• Around 11 a.m., there will be a short “halftime break” for everyone to rest, hydrate, reapply sunscreen, and regroup for the second half of the session.
• If your surfer or camper prefers to wear a life preserver, please bring one, as we are unable to provide them.
• Surf camp shirts are available for purchase. These are lightweight, long-sleeve, quick-dry rash-guard style shirts with UV protection.
• Wearing quick-dry long-sleeve shirts and running-tights style pants is recommended to help protect the skin from sun exposure and minor scratches from sand, seashells, and similar natural elements.

What To Expect

Due to the nature of surfing, some minor scratches on hands and knees can be very common for surfers and campers. Our team provides basic first aid when needed and also works closely with the lifeguards on site to help keep everyone safe.

We also share the ocean with sea life. During the warmer summer days, jellyfish can sometimes be present. When we receive updates or notifications from local authorities, we will share that information with families as needed.

Thunderstorms and lightning are also common during the summer. If lightning is seen over the water, everyone will immediately exit the ocean and remain out until it is safe to return. If there is only rain or distant thunder, camp activities may resume when conditions allow.

If the morning weather forecast shows severe conditions, we will notify families in advance with a “go” or “no go” decision. Weather is one of the few things we cannot control, so we truly appreciate your patience and understanding.

If a session needs to end early before 12:30 pm, you will receive a text message to pick up your surfer or camper at the gazebo near the 19th Street parking lot. Please be sure to share your contact number with HOT SUSHI ahead of time if you have not already done so.

For safety reasons, personal surfboards are not allowed unless they are soft-top boards with soft, rounded fins. Hard surfboards with sharp fins are not permitted.

If your surfer or camper will be celebrating a birthday during camp week, please let HOT SUSHI know in advance so the special day can be celebrated together as one big ʻohana on the beach.

Waivers, Cancellations, Refund and Such

Please bring your signed waiver on the first day of your scheduled week. You may download the PDF from this website, complete and sign it in advance, and send it digitally to HOT SUSHI if you prefer.
No waiver, no service.

If more than one session must be canceled due to weather, a make-up day will be offered during the season. You will be able to choose a new date based on availability.

For last-minute cancellations made less than one month before your scheduled week, your booking may be kept as a credit. This credit can be used for future private lessons, transferred to someone you know, or applied toward the next season.

Same-day cancellations are difficult to accommodate due to the nature of the sport and scheduling. While refunds were provided in a few situations last season, this cannot be guaranteed.

Surfing and beach conditions can be unpredictable. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. HOT SUSHI will always do his best to accommodate everyone and create a positive experience for all campers.

Any concerns or questions please contact HOT SUSHI ahead of time by TEXT, e-mail, FB message or instagram message with NO HESITATION. NO PHONE CALL PLEASE!
We can’t thank YOU everyone enough for your interest, consideration, patience and such with your love and support towards to our humble surf camp. We are looking forward to serve you all in the near future with our Aloha spirit to share our passions to the sport.
